m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty-five

On this gray and drizzling Friday, I'm now at the point in my preparations for traveling overseas where I am trying to wear everything before I wash it to pack. It's a game we all play at some point, so today I consciously tried not to wear my jeans as much as I really wanted to. I knew that I'd be wearing my trench because of the forecast, so the outfit went from there. It built itself from the ground up today, deliberately wearing boots for protection from the rain and tights for protection from the cold. When you consider that the primary function of clothing is to protect the body from the elements, you can be a little creative when it comes to 'fashioning' the body. This is one of my favourite sweater dresses of the many I purchased in Paris three and a half years ago. It's by an amazing high street label called Comptoir Des Cotonniers and I'm baffled that it hasn't filtered down to Australia yet. Although I have noticed some knock offs in Witchery when I perused the CDC site and found similar items the following week in our Australian counterparts stores. Comfort food, comfort dressing, this weather brings out the predictability in me.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty-four

Brighter horizons call for brighter choices so today I'm wearing an oldie but a goodie. I've had this kaftan for years and years, but it's always comfortable and I've been able to wear it in thousands of different ways. When there's a piece in your wardrobe that you know you don't wear all the time but it's there, that's what this piece is to me. I'm only wearing it simply with tights today, I'm hoping to find some black capri pants on my travels but this will have to do. I always like to belt it too, and I know I'm breaking the cardinal Trinny and Susannah rule, wearing a bright colour with black, but it works in this instance and still looks modern and fresh. Colour, don't be afraid of it.

People Magazine | Beautiful People

Eclipsing the previous year and adopting the out with old motto could well and truly apply to this American 'glossies' tradition. But it's the older ones who are garnering all the cred at the moment. Julia Roberts is more beautiful than ever before at 42 years of age, Jennifer Aniston's not far behind at 41. Now that's bucking the trend. Scarlett Johannson's maturity belies her 25 years, piercing the common LA tradition to fall type cast to a role, playing everything from Romantic Comedy heart-breaker to classic period dramas and action hero in between.
It's the guys who show that when it comes to 'beauty', there's a natural, outdoors agenda that makes them so appealing. These guys love to hike, they love to get out on their bikes, they don't take themselves too seriously and it makes them all the more attractive.
Looks like the reality check is in and it's winning. Let's hope it stays that way.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty-three

Take a simple Autumn day and turn it into what you will. Today is my organised day. Not only am I working, but I'm also running around and getting all the little things that I need for the trip. It's interesting therefore, that I've reverted back to my 'uniform' of jeans, boots and a t-shirt to take me from A to B. This Lee Matthews anorak is perfect as well, not too heavy and giving just the right amount of protection from the breeze in this incredibly beautiful sunshine.
When we consider what our uniform is, whether it be a specified one for the field we work in, or one we've sub-consciously made all our own, consider the determining factors. What is the decision process, is it for comfort, style, colour, a particular fiber that's led you to this choice? A walking signature. Run with it.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty-two

The countdown is one, exactly one week until take off. America, get ready.
Since Sunday, I've existed in a constant state of thermal shock, what happened to Friday's glorious 30C day? A cruel 10C morning, that's what. The trench got a work out yesterday afternoon, seaside in Watsons Bay. The tights are out and most likely here to stay, so today I paired them with my favourite little witch like booties, they're the perfect height to last all day in. Thank goodness for Country Road and their fine merino wool knit sweaters, I'm psyching myself into a layering state of mind, ready for the trip ahead and today it's turned out to be a relatively corporate look but I don't mind, warmth is key.

Gorance Dore in Sydney

I looked out the window and spotted the one and only Gorance Dore in Paddington's William Street yesterday. She's in Sydney and we couldn't be more excited for her visit. It's Australian Fashion Week next week, and Dore is also here to lend her illustrative hand to a few local designers. Keep an eye out for her and watch her progress at http://www.garancedore.fr/en/

Flourless Chocolate Cakes

Surfacing from a chocolate hangover still substantially present from Easter, it was time to get back into the game with these flourless chocolate cakes. There is a brilliant food blog I've been introduced to called 'Not Quite Nigella', and the daily emails are a reminder of how fabulous desserts can make one's day. Have a look for yourself by clicking on the name.
I didn't find this recipe on her blog but there was certainly a void that needed to be filled and that's where these little delights came into their own.
1) Preheat oven to 180C (160 fan forced). Line a muffin tray with patty pans.
2) Dissolve 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules with 1 teaspoon hot water.
3) Place 100g butter (Nuttelex in this case), 150g dark chocolate (I used Organics 70%), 1/2 vanilla extract and dissolved coffee in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat when mixture is smooth, set aside to cool.
4) Separate the egg whites from the egg yolks of 4 large eggs.
5) With an electric mixer, beat egg whites with 90g caster sugar, beat until soft peaks form.
6) In a separate bowl, beat yolks with 80g caster sugar using hand held electric beaters, beating until mixture is light, thick and creamy.
7) Gently fold chocolate mixture into yolk mixture.
8) Break up any lumps of 200g almond meal before gently stirring it into the chocolate mixture.
9) Spoon about 1/3 of the egg whites into the chocolate mixture and use a spatula or large spoon to gently fold the egg whites through the mixture until just combined. Fold in remaining egg whites until just combined.
10) Spoon mixture into prepared patty pans and bake for about 40 minutes. Remove from oven and cover with clean tea towel. Allow to cool in pans.
11) Melt 50g dark chocolate and pour over cakes.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty-one

It's an incredibly relaxed public holiday Monday and there's no need to get particularly dressed up. I've gone for neutral colours and there's a bit of a chill in the air so the boots are just the ticket. To head out later in the day, I might wear my trench coat over the top as that will lift the whole outfit, but for the moment, I'm comfortable in this very simple ensemble.
Autumn has definitely flicked a switch and I'm starting to wear more and more pieces from my wardrobe that I haven't worn for a while. It's nice, and the change of seasons is welcomed by all judging by the word on the street.
Long weekends, love them.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twenty

It's impossible to imagine the sacrifices our ANZAC's made and today we remember them. There's a buzz in the air, an anticipation of a fun filled day to celebrate all that we have as a result of those very worthy sacrifices aforementioned. Keeping it simple is key, and today I'm keeping it very simple, with a little splash of colour added by my vintage scarf to cheer up an otherwise drizzly morning.
Fashion provided symbolic meaning throughout WWI and WWII, with many couturiers closing down due to fabric rationing. After WWI, the freedom from corsets and the emergence of the flapper era signified that constricting lifestyles were in the past and this was a time to celebrate liberation. Turning the tables at the end of WWII however saw the return to a conservative style of clothing developed by Dior's 'New Look' that dominated the 50's, all feminine cinched waists and full skirted styles, as a suggestion of a desire to bring back some control in a world that was rebuilding social expectations as a whole.
When we dress today, these factors don't even enter the thought process, it's a completely consumer driven enterprise and we're not necessarily given the freedom of choice we're led to believe we are entitled to. It's a whole new ball game.
Lest we forget.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day nineteen

The extent to which I've worn these Fleur Wood tops astounds me, I've also got the green one and I've been relying on them for 6 years now. That's enough to quantify most secondary educations so cost per wear is well and truly void. Don't you love our ability to justify purchases with the old faithful 'cost per wear' line. It's a valid point though. And is it wrong that I'm now consciously avoiding white t-shirts? Just an observation. This is a good Saturday outfit, with a trip to Colefax planned, a day out and about and strike bowling later tonight, you can't go wrong in jeans. Ballet flats won over Converse sneakers today, the forecast is for high temperatures again so it's the smarter choice and they keep the outfit feminine. No further analysis required, it's simple and that's what I need it to be.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day eighteen

My goodness Collette Dinnigan knows how to dress the female form. When it comes to adding a dart here or finishing a hem there, this skirt and jacket are living proof that all it takes is to give shape where shape is due. And the femininity isn't lost on such structured designs either, with a tucked collar giving the jacket softness and the high waist of the skirt flattering my curves, this ensemble is one that I notice I walk differently in. I stand straighter, shoulders back, I smile because I like the colour. My Marc Jabobs pumps have now had two outings this week, lucky, lucky. They're the perfect height as they're not 7 inches tall, and I can walk or run (yes that's right, run) very easily in them, they're undeniably comfortable, the most important factor.
This is an outfit that today, makes me appreciate fashion even more, because we can always add a little twist to something that is otherwise conventionally classic. I always try to find the elegance in certain garments, and these all combined together, reflect that all on their own.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day seventeen

A contradiction of sorts, I've gone for a light and floaty dress for the forecast today, and given the look some weight with the addition of flat boots. It's lacking colour and keeping things neutral, but I feel comfortable in this outfit, this is something that reflects my style for everyday wear. I customized this Lee Matthews dress by dying it black from a very draining mustard yellow, and I took the hem up so it's flattering at the knee. It's almost a childlike freedom when I wear this dress, I can't explain the feeling but I know that there's a certain innocence in such a floaty dress. It's an interesting observation to note, because the silhouette of the dress shows off a more feminine style rather than for a child. Given the ties at the shoulders and back, however, the bows certainly reflect a similarity to enfant wear. Stepping out it grounded comfort, a walking signature.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day sixteen

With the obscurity of the exquisite fog blanketing Sydney this morning, I wanted to lift myself through it so there wasn't an ounce of black in my selection today. I kept all the textures light, wearing a white jacket that I made in third year at uni with my Dries Van Noten wide leg trousers. These pants are a blessing in disguise, they hide all my imperfections and give my legs length, they can only be worn with heels and so I've chosen a tonal pair of Pedro Garcia raw silk covered pumps to complete the look. It's worked, giving me the feeling of weightlessness to what could have been a heavier selection just by changing the top or the shoes for instance.
It's a special day today, I'm blowing out 25 candles in my mind. To be incredibly thankful for all the joys, I'm remembering today. It's time to celebrate.

Tuesday, 20 April 2010

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day fifteen

With an exception to the rule, I've chosen conservative black for the day but not because it's a safe outfit, just because it's one of my favourite dresses by Willow. It's flattering and gives me shape at my waist, I also felt like wearing my Marc Jacobs pumps so it was the perfect combination, they compliment each other well. It's not necessarily a cold day here however I have to admit that I wouldn't wear this outfit without the tights, they give the overall look polish and it wouldn't be as pulled together or executed as finally if it were tight less.
I know I briefly spoke about the fact that the majority of people revert to black in their wardrobe when they "have nothing to wear", and as an observation I'd probably be opposite to that trend, but there is something incredibly comfortable about putting on an all black outfit and feeling as though you can take on the day with ease, not having to worry about the outfit once it's assembled.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day fourteen

Completely unintentional, my look today is all equestrian. It's the boots, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Although the days are still gorgeous, Autumn sun shining and blue skies for days, I'm feeling the cold and the boots keep me warm. Practical and classic, they lift this outfit than say if I'd been wearing my converse or my sandals.
This little cardigan is also a great cover over my shoulder and even though it's not full sleeve, it's keeping the chill away. That's the greatest thing about cardigans, they're so easy to slip on and off so layering them in this tran-seasonal weather is ideal. The Australian climate lends itself so well to cardigans for this very reason, save your big woolen jumpers for the cooler months. Likewise with my choice of shorts today. I was quite cold enough for long trousers, but had I been, I would have gone for my trusty jeans. They're fail proof. The shorts on the other hand are something I'm comfortable in, but not everyone feels as conservative in shorts, they're maybe more of a trend than a classic. Go with whatever you feel comfortable in, remember everyone will be able to tell if you're uncomfortable.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day thirteen

Endeavoring to find an outfit that's appropriate for Sunday breakfasts and afternoon teas, jeans provide the answer. I was also excited to be wearing my favourite pink woven brogues again today, it's amazing how a special item of clothing can affect your mood for better or worse. Please don't berate me but I can't believe I'm in a white top again, the universe is screaming out to me that this is just too much for a comfort 'food' when I'm putting together my outfit for the day. I honestly had no idea of the prominence of this staple in my wardrobe and how much I rely on it to add a classic look to any ensemble.
I have to admit though, I'm writing this now at the end of the day from the cosy comforts of my very well worn track suit. First time for the season, nothing beats the cooler change in the weather and the completely oversized roominess of cotton fleece. Sunday, fun day.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day twelve

Without subjecting you to the sporty Saturday get up I was in for the majority of the day, here's what I've selected for a concert in the city with friends. Not that there's anything wrong with a Ralph Lauren Polo T-Shirt and black tights with runners, there's just nothing very exciting or worthy of critique.
This vintage suede jacket has served its purpose well, I'm still wearing it many years after I found it at my dearly departed Frock Exchange, no longer in Rozelle and offering a lower standard alternative. It's contrasting well to my Fleur Wood camisole and because I'm in heels, also vintage and scoured in Newtown, the jeans fit the bill perfectly. A dress would have been too over the top tonight and I feel comfortable in this relatively less-attention-grabbing outfit.
These shoes have special significance you see. I take a ladies size 40 shoe and anyone who has ever tried to go vintage shopping knows that there's little or no hope when it comes to finding pre-loved shoes over a size 36. I bought them to wear to my seventeenth birthday party that one of my dearest friends threw for me at her house, and I've never looked back. These shoes will go on my mantle piece one day when the threat of ruining them in their primary function is too high.

Juliana Margulies

She might be playing the Good Wife but Julianna Margulies is certainly steaming up W Magazine's photo shoot proving she's all woman in these Bottega Veneta and Dior ensembles. It's a fantastic television program, one of the best on free-to-air right now I'd have to argue, and her cool and calm demeanor provides a captivating performance by Margulies.
W loves vamping things up doesn't it, continuing to give us transformations of conservative girls next door to complete vixens all in the best taste of course. Red is certainly Julianna Margulies' colour and I only wish the very best for this TV series in the future. If she continues to wear those incredible jackets with fabulous pencil skirts and wide leg pants, she'll be the envy every lawyer in town, talk about exuding power.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day eleven

Clearly clinging to a theme that I didn't even realise existed until I undertook this exercise, the white top is out for another run today. This time the temperature is requesting sleeves so I've kept it simple with plain black tights and ballet flats. It's casual Friday, I'm at the computer for most of the day today and comfort is essential. The pleasant surprise forms itself in the scarf though. I found this piece of fabric when I was cleaning my studio where I film and voila, I haven't made it into anything as yet so today it's sole purpose is for warmth. The colours work well with the blank canvas provided by the neutral contrasting black and white ensemble, and it's a nice change to lift the outfit with a splash of print.
The element of stars in a print can range from childhood right through to late adulthood, and on this particular piece of fabric, the fact that they're gradating in size also lends itself well to a more mature feel rather than if it were block sized and scattered stars. Age appropriation when considering a garment is something that stems from my experience in retail and it's so clear when someone isn't comfortable in what they're wearing, most often than not feeling too old for the garments.
Twinkle, twinkle little star.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day ten

With a couple of meetings booked and a bright sunny, fresh Autumn day ahead, what better solution than Sofia Kokosalaki black silk/wool crepe pants and Rupert Sanderson brogues. This is an outfit that still holds a certain amount of credibility as it's not too casual like wearing jeans for instance, but the white top keeps it simple. This is a top I made, with a simple boat neck line rather than the standard tee v-neck or scoop neck option. It helps to pull this look together because it's not printed or too fussy, it's not in a particularly show-stopping fabric, and it covers the shoulders without actually garnering the need for a sleeve.
Considering these pants are quite corporate, I'm feeling a little masculine in this outfit today, it's giving me the confidence to hold my shoulders back and in contrast to yesterday where I was wearing a full skirt with connotations of the 50's, today the roles are changing. Note taken.

A Stylish Turn

Setting the bar for unbelievably understated style over the last week doesn't go much farther past the likes of Camilla Belle, Chloe Sevigny, Ginnifer Goodwin, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rachel Bilson.
For all the uncertainty surrounding Stefano Pilati's position as designer at Yves Saint Laurent, the first four aforementioned ladies all donned his creations for the Opera at the Met. Camilla Belle couldn't demand a more regal presence as she bares her shoulders in this stunning, age appropriate confection and the black pant suits sported by Sivegny and Goodwin reek of the famous YSL pant suit moment captured by none other than Helmut Newton. Maggie Gyllenhaal is borderline washed out in her nude slip of a gown, but her dark hair and make up pull it all back together, blonds beware of this very hard look to pull off. Finally, Rachel Bilson at another event wearing Preen gives us a taste of how to wear blush and not let it wear you. She's confident in this playful style and still pulls off the elegance the event requires with thanks to the hem line being a little longer, balancing the peek-a-boo skin further north.
To the week that was, applause.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day nine

Believe it or not, this is an incredibly versatile skirt. The amount of outfits I've been able to create with this skirt never ceases to amaze me, thanks Willow, you're a star. It would work well with a belt to pull this look together, there's something about it that's not quite finished but I don't have the resources so I'm leaving it as is. Who would have thought I'd wear a white t-shirt so frequently too? Don't worry, I have many and I'm not wearing the same one over and over, but really, without this experiment I wouldn't have realised I have a comfort top. Some people have comfort food, me? I'm all about the white tee apparently. What does it mean?
Analysis over the years of the simple white t-shirt has delved into not only the psychology of such a simple garment, one worn right from birth almost and fitting to us for the rest of our lives if we're lucky but also into the status of such a garment. In common with jeans, these garments have evolved from their workers beginning to something of a status symbol, it's baffling but true. All the different applications and treatments have already been applied to these simple items, so what more can they invent for them in the future? It's possible there's still uncovered territory when it comes to innovation for the white tee and denim jean, but today, it's serving it's purpose as a neutral and comfortable top, not too revealing and an appropriate contrast to the colour of the skirt and boots. Fun.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day eight

In a completely different frame of mind and ready to portray a sharper but still very personable look, I've gone for my favourite flat brogues and built the outfit around those. I've chosen the flats not only for the comfort factor, but also because I don't want to appear too intimidating today, I'm not in that kind of mood and I realise how tall I am in heels. Why is it that the general assumption to wear black when all else fails is such a predominant factor in so many people's lives? It's classic, yes, and it goes with nearly every other colour, I get that too, but it's such a strong determining feature in many wardrobes by today's standards that it would be nice to observe what happens to this staple in the next decade. It's only really since the 90's that black has had this kind of natural selection over many other colourful or even printed or textured garments that we may already own, when will the tables turn?

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day seven

And here we are, another week, another outfit. It's a beautiful fresh morning and I've doubled up on the harem pants but they're quick and easy, just what I need today so on they go with my very prominent colour again and a cashmere Burberry sweater. The gold sandals once again lift the look adding just the right amount of contrast with the black to pull the look together. I was in the mood for wearing my black ballet flats again but I needed something with a little height as I was going to be on my feel all day. When I put this outfit on, I'm very aware of how different the pants are and that they might not be to everyone's taste. My mind frame today is in a more conservative place so I'll change out of them into jeans if I'm still feeling self-conscious. It's interesting what's coming of this experiment isn't it? Let's see what the next week has in store.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day six

Aside from the fact that had I was still in my pajamas at 12.30pm on this very lazy Sunday, I dressed in just a casual jeans and white tee combination with black ballet flats. It's fail proof and was perfect for a quick stop in at the pub late Sunday afternoon. This is an outfit that reflects all the rules I'm akin to. A white t-shirt equals a flattering and non-threatening look, the jeans fit well and because they're darker they instantly look a little more dressed up than a lighter shade, and black ballet flats are a feminine and comfortable alternative to my trusty converse chucks. Everything a Sunday should be, relaxed and comfortable with no rushing in sight. Safe.

Saturday, 10 April 2010

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day five

An exception to the rule, and a few months since their very surprising purchase, I'm still comfortable wearing the harem pants. Maybe a little too comfortable, they're genius. It takes me a moment to get my head around the idea that they do have the tendency to appear as though one is wearing a a nappy, so psychologically I need to be in the right mood to wear them. Once they're on though, I don't care. Isn't it funny how you base your decision on what to wear by what your activities include that day. I have a bit of a drive ahead of me later today so they'll be perfect, although where I'm going they may not exactly understand the style of them, who knows? It's all part of the fun. I always wear these pants with something extremely simple on top though, they have enough going on that I don't need to bring any more fuss to the table. My wardrobe staple, a white t-shirt is all I need today to complete this outfit, and the gold injects just the right amount of colour necessary.
It's a cruisy Saturday today, and what better than to relax in disturbingly comfortable silk jersey pants.

Friday, 9 April 2010

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day four

With an execution as graceful as a sledge hammer to fine bone china, I dressed for the day in my simplest outfit. No thought required, Fleur Wood dress and Rupert Sanderson brogues, you understand me and serve me well.
It's a gorgeous day with the sun shining and blue sky, so why not keep it casual and fun. I couldn't begin to think of wearing anything constricting today, I'm all for comfort and this outfit fits the bill.
Through challenges and prevailing moments, I'm sticking by my Papa's very wise words. It's just a tiny stitch in the tapestry of life and couldn't be a more appropriate accolade for how I feel today.

Thursday, 8 April 2010

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day three

All pretense thrown to the wind, today was a much more casual affair. It's a day calling for shorts and so to give the outfit a bit of interest, I've added this trusty little bolero. It's in a colour I have in far too much excess in my wardrobe but I'm of the lesson that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's a great colour to wear back with any neutrals and can dress up or down garments from each end of the spectrum with ease. Witchery pieces are good like that. The gold sandals are also versatile as they're comfortable but can be worn with anything from dresses to pants, shorts to skirts, you can't beat that.
It's a safe outfit. It doesn't make me feel like I'm attracting too much attention, interesting choice of words but it's true, I don't like to stand out too much so I keep my looks pretty safe. There you go, that's the first self critique to come out of this exercise, I didn't think I'd come to realise these issues publicly quite so soon.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day two

The extent to which one over analyzes what they're going to wear at the start of the day depends mostly, in my opinion on what the weather is doing. It's raining this morning and so out come the boots for the first time this season.
My tried, tested and trusted Marni top always puts me in a good frame of mind to start the day. Either belted or worn loose like an egg, highly appropriate given the weekend we've just encountered, this is a top I can always rely on to work simply with jeans.
There's nothing too over the top about this outfit, it's still quite casual with the flat boots and jeans, however there's always going to be more of a statement made when printed surface design is applied. Cinched in, I feel ready for business. No over analysis required.
Rainy days.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e | day one

There's a certain point when a child decides to dress themselves, choosing their outfit for the day rather than an adult doing it for them. So every day, many people can find the task daunting rather than a pleasure, or simply just another task on an already over flowing list.
The point is to keep it simple, unless of course it is one's greatest desire to put in an incredible effort for even the most mundane grocery store run or errand.
Today, I decided to wear a plain white shirt dress, that come to think of it, I've never worn as a dress. What did you think of it before you started reading this. Did you judge me just a little? Did you think that you could never wear that? For me, the purpose of this exercise is to understand why you may have thought that. All it is is a shirt dress, singlet top, stretch leggings and ballet flats, nothing fancy or intimidating and no print or colour in sight. It's interesting to note that if I were going to a more formal engagement, I'd wear this with black lace up ankle boots that have a slight heel, that's how I most often wear this outfit. But today it's just flats.
I can't decipher just yet how this exercise will pan out and what findings will come of it, but I hope you enjoy the new format of P R O F I L E and give me feedback to work with as well.
Welcome to my studio, it's serves the purpose well. Henrik Ibsen's 'A Doll's House' comes to mind when I see my towing frame in an Alice in Wonderland like studio, but in Ibsen's commentary of the quest for perfection, we can only define it by what we personally consider perfect. It's a very different definition from every individual and this daily blog is not attempting to attain perfection. Jour de critique un.

m i n d i n g m y l a n g u a g e

There is a deep desire to understand the psychological reasoning behind a person's decision making process when it comes to what they wear. For many reasons, people where a certain uniform to address the needs of their occupation, other times we dress formally for certain ceremonies and right's of passage. So when it comes to daily dressing, like many of those trying to analyze their food habits, is it possible to asscertain this information by keeping a garment dairy.
Welcome to the new chapter in P R O F I L E ' s history. In this experiment, I will keep a video diary of what I am wearing on a daily basis, documenting the good, the bad and the down right ugly. Trust me, there are plenty of those days too.
When Roland Barthes first established his fashion system, calling it 'The Language Of Fashion', it provided many arguments to support the notion that we instantly begin to justify or judge an image of a person as soon as there is text or commentary applied to it. So if I were to merely upload a video of my outfit without going into why I chose to put those garments on in the first place, there'd be a very different take on it to if I were to give an explanation.
This kind of critique is one of a kind in Australian blogging and I encourage you to follow my daily dairy by becoming a follower of P R O F I L E.
Clean slate.

MLC Centre | Fashion Photography Exhibition

From Dreams To Reality will run at MLC Centre on the corner of Castlereagh and and King Street in Sydney from 8 - 22 April. It's well worth a look as the exhibition showcases some of Australia's most prominent photographers and their work.
Fashion photography captivates the senses, taking us from a very commercial scenario into fantasy worlds with the click of a button. It's digital initiation has taken the medium into even greater boundaries of creativity and even if fashion isn't necessarily your thing, these images still offer an appreciation for the surroundings in which they're set.
BE there.

The Hunter Valley

When it's Easter and there's four fortunate days up for grabs, what better way to spend them other than running away to the beautiful Hunter Valley. Take a windy, bumpy road up to the top of the mountain, and you realise exactly what life is all about. It may sound philosophical, but drunk on an overdose of chocolate, it's oh so very true.
Camera at the ready with the vinyards in the distance, the landscape is captured and certainly proves it's ready to steal the show.
Golden Lindt bunnies all round kept smiles on all our faces, and it can't go without mention that Colefax also managed to out do themselves this year. Surrounded by friends and family, an overwhelmingly impressive selection of wines and an incredible home cooked roast pork couldn't have rounded out a more fabulous Easter weekend. Hope you have all had a lovely time too. There better not be any chocolate left over. Promise me.

Jennifer Anniston

There's something about Jennifer Anniston that so many people can relate to. Maybe it's because she's painted as the ultimate trooper in the media, but then again, the media like to paint her many other shades as well.
But showing that when you're knocked down, you can right get right back up again with even more strength than before, Anniston proves that the movie might not be the hit of the century but her style and grace certainly is. She's getting better with age, and it's fabulous to see that she's starting to branch out from her standard black choices.
Speaking of getting better with age like a fine wine, I'm off to the beautiful Hunter Valley, have a wonderful Easter. Hope the Easter Bunny spoils you.
