Colour Pop | Menswear AW10
We can all breathe a sigh of relief as Paul Smith composed a very well thought through and colourful menswear AW10 collection. Although his choice in models left little to be desired (their long hair and gaunt faces aren't exactly the look of sophistication and elegance I often associate with Smith's label), my attention was firmly on the brilliant twist he applies to his classic pieces. There were elements for everyone from sporting inspired attire to the more relaxed casual style great for Australia's climate and lifestyle. Ahh.
Two words couldn't sum up fashion more appropriately than (1) Lanvin and (2) Paris. However, I fear that Alber Elbaz didn't quite hit the mark with this collection. I was completely adoring the very baggy pants but wasn't so keen on the strips of what appeared to be velcro fastened fabric around the waist. I couldn't work out their styling or functional purpose.
There was also a lack of coherence at the Agnes B menswear collection. Colour sequences eventually brought the show together and I think it was the shocking purple that did it thank goodness. But in terms of individual elements of the collection, there were missing links. Slightly disturbing were the child models sporadically sprinkled through the show, in their grown-up get up. Not really a child's scene perhaps.
Forefront of fashion, eyes and ears peeled.
