Epic Proportion | AW10
When Pringle Of Scotland launched it's video featuring Tilda Swinton last week, the multitude of cool didn't even begin to explain it. The follow up menswear collection in Milan today furthered the featurette, albeit against a very different backdrop. Elements were still evident though, with claw like gloves and headgear for the wilderness, it appears that nature wins again.
The tribal drumbeat of references that I can only draw from the epic in Avatar, witnessing the incredibly ugly amongst beautiful landscape in Alexander McQueen's imagination. Applying prints to his menswear isn't quite as strong as his womenswear collections, but he's in a world of his own and not afraid to push the boundaries.
And the Gucci man is still most definitely the Gucci man. Epitomising the Milanese way, he's in his deep hues of purple and plum, he's wearing his loafers proudly boasting his ankles for the world to see, and he oozes luxury with his overnighter. If it ain't broke...
And so I wrap up against a Versace backdrop. Start with a black canvas, a very black canvas, and end in a sea of colours. I've just come home from watching Avatar in 3D and I can't begin to look at colour in the same way again.
Once you pop, you can't stop.
