Talent In Abundance
Delicately balancing on the fine line between alive and not, fashion and food perhaps aren't all that different. At the very basic level, they are considered a 'need'. Ok, ok I can hear you saying fashion is not a need, but warm clothing certainly is. And I realise that garments last much longer than food, or in my case, as I inhale food at the speed of light, much, much longer. But at the end of the day, both are 'served' for all to enjoy. Food isn't judgmental, fashion can be. But both can be critiqued, whether it be by a two-year-old who displays incredible athleticism hurtling spaghetti around the room, or by the likes of the fabulous Matt Preston in his printed and outrageous boots.
Australian Fashion Week recently took place, commencing one month ago today, and as all the magazines start to filter out their opinions, the storm swirling around Dion Lee is one that cannot go unnoticed. For his second collection, hype was surmounting at warp speed for this 24-year-old talent. His 'dishes' were exceptionally well thought through and from start to finish, each look flowed effortlessly into the next. The spectacular shadows from the beams in the Sydney Opera House where he chose to display his collection didn't do anything to discourage an overwhelming feeling of Australian pride at the international skill he portrayed either.
Second helpings anyone?
