Autumn Winter 2011 Couture
Opulence and spectacle, Jean-Paul Gaultier's couture show had it all. The world of luxury he created was beyond Australia's take on the word, it was very European and old world. Dita Von Teese even made an appearance or two on his runway, and with all the glamour associated, she was the perfect muse.
Elie Saab kept the idea of a rich and luxurious woman running when he enlisted Karolina Kurkova to open his show and walk two more times after the opener. The folds and silhouettes will work perfectly for his A-list celebrity clientele on the red carpet, they will stand out and shine.
Words that are synonymous with couture are Valentino and his red dress. This time, two little red dresses and a simple long gown were only littered amongst a sea of pearlescent shapes and volumes. Ruffles still feature as they have for Valentino the last couple of seasons, and a modern Marie Antointette comes to mind.
