Toni Maticevski AW10
And so New York Fashion Week begins.
Australian design talent in Toni Maticevski appears to have lost a little of it's focus though. He sent out beautiful creations, albeit in a sequence that had me feeling like I was getting pulled in and out of the loop. Whoever looked after the choreography for the running order needs to look at how stories must be told. There was no ease into the next look, it was bam soft chiffon to boom black and hard, then back again. Headache worthy stuff.
But over all, he started the viewing with his show stopping numbers worthy of red carpets everywhere, and then threw in some black and gold ensembles that will work for an evening cocktail hour. There was one coat in there, perhaps a nod to his adopted New York that he understands it gets cold there, but it was the only one of it's kind and didn't quite make sense. It was to beautiful effect if it had been seen individually on the street, but my point is that these shows are about creating an atmosphere and this one was jumping all over the place. Sorry Toni. Hope the critics focus on the garments.
