New York AW10 | Day Five

For all the drab that Marc Jacobs show may have conjured, there was still an innovative idea that made him stand out from the pack in the first place. Over sized fits or something you may have worn to your first day of kindergarten complete with bobbin socks and Mary Janes defined the majority of the show. Sparklers were present in fleeting moments however, and although not his most memorable collection, all the key elements of his ethos are there.
And it's ok because Halston made up for all the tricky cuts or fancy fashion ideas you could have been craving for after Jacob's show anyway. There were rumours that Sarah-Jessica Parker was set to collaborate with the Halston design team, and if Carrie's wardrobes could have included all these pieces in this collection, they would have. So it's a match made in heaven so to speak.
On Monique Lhuellier's runway, hemlines were high and the hair was higher. Tight and bright might contribute to an otherwise elegant collection, but getting past the technique behind her stand out red gowns was tough. Glamour ruled supreme and appears to be a trend fit for red carpets globally.
Lashings of black with only a hint of acid purple personified in a coat took over Donna Karan's incredibly elegant collection. Her wave like tucks explored the shape of the body with absolute precision, and necklines ruffled to stunning effect.
Red must hold the golden ticket as day four unfolds before is. Carolina Herrera effortlessly paired this back with camel and grey for maximum impact and her prints kept thing's interesting for women over forty the world over.
I see red.
