Resort 2011

Before we get over the fact that we're now witnessing collections with '2011' in the title, we can take a deep breath and find comfort in the fact that the 90's are now de rigeur. Gasping at the fact that the 90's are considered vintage, it's still marginally comforting to know that a time not so long ago was the time when fashion was minimal. The fuss is stripped back and silhouette's clean and streamlined. This is refreshing after a very floaty and flouncy season of frills and poofs in floral prints. I can say this with confidence as I flick through some very fabulous French Vogues I just received as a gift, harking back from 1995.
One man who is accustomed to minimal is Narciso Rodriguez, and his suits and cropped pants fit in amongst his famous dresses.
Marc Jacobs was one who had to pull the fuss right back this season. He's known for creating classic styles with a youthful and fresh energy, but I felt more grown up for his Resort collection, maybe he does too.
Stella McCartney can do no wrong in my opinion and she's kept her Resort 2011 collection fun and playful. It's refreshing, and the colour palette is full of navy and cream, bliss.
Stefano Pilati for Yves Saint Laurent has given us a more geometric monochromatic print, but kept it very simple shape wise. Smart move.
And last but not least, this beautiful collection by Max Azria has kept the colours earthy and the silhouettes easy. For a man who produces ranges for three different labels, he's obviously feeling the need for us to find and uncluttered balance in our lives and with that, resort report is in. School's out. Enjoy the long weekend kids.
