That Seventies Show

The fact that we realised there was a strong 90's reference in many of the Resort 2011 shows counteracts the elements of the 70's taking over others. It's created a balance between silhouette and surface design and my personal favourite collection has to be by Phoebe Philo at Celine. She's kept it incredibly modern at the same time as referencing the decade that saw political and social liberation.
Givenchy comes in as a close second with a collection that takes on a journey and uses transparent elements to add interest to an otherwise very beautifully tailored range.
Balenciaga takes the suit and gives it a new lease on life. The colour palette continues to run with this 70's theme and the elements combine to provide a very succinct collection.
A play on various elements from different decades has run deep through Chanel's collections the past few collections, and this one was no different. In keeping with the resort style, all the models had a carefree nature and the extensive range was purely in keeping with Chanel's aesthetic.
Alexander Wang gave us experimental answers to creative questions. That's what the free-love decade was all about wasn't it? Peace.
